Marwan Hamed
Marwan Hamed is an Egyptian prominent filmmaker who possesses an extensively auspicious repertoire that extends over 20 years of experience in producing and directing films, in addition to directing over 300 commercials, TV drama series and music videos.

Marwan’s debut feature The Yacoubian Building (2006) screened at some of the world's most prestigious film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. The film won numerous awards including the Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival and the Grand Prix at the Festival du Monde Arab France.

In 2014, Marwan directed The Blue Elephant that reaped several awards at many film festivals like the Best Director and Best Film awards at Egyptian Film Association Festival, the Special Jury Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF), and many more.

Marwan directed the film’s second installment The Blue Elephant 2 in 2019. The film dominated the box office becoming the highest top box office film in Egyptian history.

Currently, Hamed is in the making of a new film with Ahmed Mourad called Kira & El Gen. The film is based on Mourad’s best-selling novel 1919.

Marwan was selected as a jury member at many highly extolled festivals including the head of jury for the Child Protection Award at the 2014’s Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and a jury member at the Taormina Film Festival (2007), Montpelier Film Festival (2008), Montreal Film Festival (2010), Abu Dhabi Film Festival (2011), and the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in Zurich. In 2019, Hamed presided the jury of the Short Film Competition at El Gouna Film Festival (GFF).

In 2018, America Abroad Media (AAM) announced the honoring of Marwan Hamed and his father, renowned screenwriter and producer Wahid Hamed, at its sixth annual Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.
